WHO WE ARE

In 1994, the NSW Government established City West Housing (CWH) as an independent not for profit housing provider with a focus on developing and delivering affordable rental housing  as part of a mixed residential community in the Ultimo/Pyrmont area for people on very low to moderate incomes. As a result of its initial success, CWH was invited to expand its operations to the Green Square area and now owns and manages affordable rental housing across the City of Sydney.

Today CWH is a Tier 1 registered community housing provider with strong development capability and a commitment to service delivery.  Our ongoing investment in the areas in which we operate and the supports we provide to our residents across a range of income groups to help them access the benefits of living close to jobs, supports, and other amenities, helps us contribute to inclusive communities and the functioning of our city.

CELEBRATING 24 YEARS PROVIDING AFFORDABLE HOUSING

1994

City West Housing was established in 1994 with a portfolio of 20 units at Maryann Street / Bulwara Road.

Our objective was to deliver up to 600 units of affordable housing over a 30 year period.

1998

Company expanded area of operation to City of Sydney LGA including Green Square.

2003

With 25 homes in 14a Quarry Master Drive the portfolio now totals 340 homes and accommodates over 700 people.

2011

Negotiated preferred developer status with City of Sydney for the South Sydney Hospital site affordable housing component. 

O’Dea Avenue development awarded the Urban Taskforce Australia Development Excellence Award for Affordable Housing.

2013

Portfolio now totals 547 properties.

Awarded the tender for the North Eveleigh site for 88 units.

Completed DA documentation for 104 units at Portman Avenue due for completion in 2014.

2014

Development is nearing completion on The Platform Apartments, Eveleigh, 88 homes will be available once it is finished.

2015

The Platform Apartments at Eveleigh, a $28 million development completed in a record timeframe (under 12.5months) and well under budget awarded Excellence in Affordable Development awards - 2015 UDIA NSW Awards for Excellence. It has also received a nomination for the UDIA National Awards.

City West Housing acquired a property at Harold Park adjacent to the Mirvac development from the City of Sydney council. Early concept designs indicate a potential yield of 76 units on the site. 

2016

The Exordium Apartments at Zetland is a $41m development opened in March 2016 comprising of 104 contemporary apartments specially designed to provide significantly needed affordable, high quality housing solutions to workers within the City of Sydney. 

It will offer a mix of one, two and three bedroom units, catering for all the primary needs of workers in Sydney, with approximately 15% of the accommodation being adaptable for elderly or disabled tenants.

2017

Council approval was received for 99 homes at Wentworth St, Glebe and another 75 homes at Ross St, Forest Lodge (Harold Park). Tenders for a Head Contractor were issued with construction commencement due in 2018.

2018

Construction commenced on Wentworth Street, Glebe that will deliver 99 affordable apartments in approximately late 2019.
